What do we understand as Dental Aesthetics?
What we understand as dental aesthetics is the result of several factors that must be evaluated as a whole.
These factors include shape, color and position of the teeth, as well as the shape and position of the gum in relation to the teeth.
Nowadays, there are techniques capable of modifying all of these factors to achieve the best possible outcome.
Since the concept of aesthetics is subjective and largely depends on each person's perception, it is very important that, before starting any aesthetic treatment, you express your expectations and feel fully informed about how your situation will improve.
Therefore, please don't hesitate to ask any questions or concerns you may have, we would be happy to assist you.
What is Teeth Whitening?
Teeth whitening is a chemical procedure that involves applying a product that releases oxygen which penetrates the tooth and lightens its colour.
It doesn't cause wear or alteration of the tooth surface.
The product that is used is normally a gel that contains Hydrogen Peroxide and Carbamide Peroxide.
The Tree Whitening Techniques
- Clinical Whitening: Usually done with Hydrogen Peroxide and always under strict professional control.
- Advantages: Fast and intense whitening achieved in one or several sessions depending on the desired result, and it doesn't require the patient's cooperation.
- Disadvantages: It may cause a temporary increase in sensitivity and can be more expensive if more sessions are required to obtain the best result.
- At Home Whitening with trays: Usually done with Carbamide Peroxide, applied using custom-made trays designed to fit the shape of the patient's teeth.
- Advantages: Additional applications over time can enhance the final result without significantly increasing the cost. Those same trays can be reused for future touch-ups.
- Disadvantages: It requires full cooperation and consistency from the patient to wear the trays at home. The results appear more gradually.
- Combined Whitening: Both techniques can be equally effective and are even complementary, so, for many patients, a combination of the two approaches provides the best outcome in terms of whitening intensity and long-term stability.
Having personalised trays allows us to carry out maintenance sessions in an easy and affordable way.
Observations about Whitening
- It is essential to ensure that both dental and periodontal health are in optimal condition before whitening. The contrary, could lead to risk during the treatment.
- Whitening is never a permanent treatment. Over time, the achieved brightness may gradually decrease to more or less extent, depending on the various factors that influence tooth color.
- Periodic whitening touch-ups can, and should be, performed when indicated by the professional based on the objectives regarding changes in tooth color or any dental particularities of each patient.
- Any additional whitening sessions and the technique to be used must be prescribed by the professional. The indiscriminate use of whitening products can be very harmful.
Aesthetic Line
The Dental Aesthetics Department (Martínez Canut group) is exclusively dedicated to Aesthetic Dentistry: Whitening, veneers and crowns. All treatments are performed by specialised professionals and follow strict quality protocols.
Principles of Dental Aesthetics
We base the effectiveness and safety of our techniques on three principles:
- Health and aesthetics: Success in dental aesthetics requires optimal dental and periodontal health, we ensure this by applying early-diagnosis procedures and preventive protocols that have been a part of our practice since the beginning.
- Latest generation technology to determine tooth colour (Digital Colorimetry) and to design and adjust ceramic restorations using computerised processes.
- Personalised Care: There isn't an aesthetic solution that works for everyone, the most suitable option, whitening and/or porcelain, must be carefully studied and adapted to each individual case.
